Smiles all round for Cornwall Hospice Care Raffle winners this festive season
It all started back in October when most of us know it’s just around the corner, but are not quite ready to start to think about the ‘C’ word that is Christmas. That’s when supporters of the local Cornish charity Cornwall Hospice Care received their Christmas Raffle tickets.
Sarah Vincent, the charity’s Lottery Manager, says; “Supporters started phoning the office to buy their tickets and make donations straight away and this, along with the huge number of posted entries, continued right up to the draw day. We pulled on our Santa hats, put on the Christmas tunes and processed every entry to give everyone who bought a ticket a go in the draw. The response has been amazing, everyone has been so generous and I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our wonderful raffle players. Your support makes a huge difference.”
Gina Starnes Director of Clinical Services went on to say; “Christmas at our hospices will see our nurses on duty around the clock providing care to those who need it most. We’re a charity that provides support to terminally ill people 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This may be someone’s last Christmas or New Year so they’ll be working to ensure it’s a good one, that they can make memories with their families and friends. Those nurses will tell you that they’ve only got one chance to get it right and they’ll do all they can to support people at the end of their life.”
Christmas raffle draw day is always an exciting day at the charity and as the lottery team get all the final entries into the draw the grand total raised is revealed……this year it was a massive £34,000 that will help fund those who are terminally ill in the two hospices over the festive season at Mount Edgcumbe in St Austell and St Julia’s in Hayle.
First prize winner of £2,000 was Mrs Symons from Falmouth who was quite shocked to hear she’d won saying; “My goodness, I haven’t have I? I do it but I don’t expect to win – thank you so much”
The second prize winner of £500 who wanted to remain anonymous, bought their ticket in the charity’s Holmbush shop and was absolutely taken back and delighted to have won this prize and be able to support such a worthwhile cause saying; “The hospices are a wonderful facility in Cornwall”.
The other prize winners – one of £250 and 10 of £50 – were all totally delighted to be winners and supporters of Cornwall Hospice Care.
